Question: Is there any easy way to disable personal safes?

  • I'm planning to make my tekkit server public but as long as it has personal safes and as long as the nuke recipe is so cheap I can't.

    1. Chest protection is something I believe to be up to the server owners discretion and a mod should not force it on a server and my servers run a free pvp theme and as such I cannot make it public with personal safes.

    2. Nukes are too cheap. I've been playing on the server with a friend and we are literally drowning in uranium. With the current nuke recipes I just can't make the server public. A community of raiders who live and work together who run a few miners would soon have enough nukes to cause havoc. Therefore I could use a tripling of the required amount of uranium in order to craft a nuke. I'd prefer not to have to disable it

  • So, you want free and open PvP, but not the consequences of that decision?
Yes, nukes are relatively cheap - I'm not seeing why a PvP IC server sounds like a good diea, but others have done it before.
I'm all for server config options but making nunkes more expensive won't in any way limit their usage.

  • of course its going to limit their use. The more they cost to make the less people will make and use. With the current cost I run the realistic risk that people will vaporize entire chunks of the map using these things and just for the hell of it. And early too.

Worst case I can manage with the current cost. Its the safe I really need to get rid of before I open the server.

  • I reviewed the explosive power of the nuke and its not so bad actually. I can tolerate them in their current forms. I changed the title to reflect the personal safes only.

  • of course its going to limit their use. The more they cost to make the less people will make and use.

Given that the world is infinite, all resources are therefore also infinite. You don't even need creepers for gunpowder - you can craft it in IC or use UU-Matter.
As for the uranium? It's more abundant than you want to admit - though you did begin your first post by saying people already had a lot of it.

So the material cost of the item is not a concern - they can and will be built and used regardless. It's not as if a lot of them are needed, really. I'm glad you have seen the folly of trying to control the IC nuclear arms race in that fashion. :)

I guess it's relative. A crater that's 53m across and 13m deep is pretty big - and that's what 1 nuke just did on my test world.

    Good times, eh?

  • The world may be infinite but it still takes time and effort to gather the uranium. Obviously the less there is of it and the more it takes to build a nuke then the fewer nukes there are going to be out there. Just as if it was as common as cobble then everyone would have and use them and if it took 1000 uranium to make a nuke then no one would have them. How much uranium it takes to build one is directly linked to how many will be built and used. I'm surprised you can even argue the opposite.

disable recipe and\or change single like in block code - Undestractable(true)...

What's the item ID for personal safes?

I'm not arguing the opposite - I'm arguing the inescapable fact that after they use one, they can go out and get the stuff to make another.
I've got a world that's less than two weeks old and I've already got two stacks of uranium ore in a chest. You could make the recipe require uranium blocks instead of ingots and I'd still have enough to make several nukes.
And I haven't ventured more than 200 meters from my house yet.

So it's not scarce enough that raising the cost will make their use prohibitive or even minimize their use. I'm surprised that you can run a PvP server and still be blind to the fact that if people want to do something like this, they will.
