Check the leaves of the tree. Also, stand near the log block. Resin often gets stuck in other blocks (Should be fixed in the next version, by ejecting resin Towards the player).

What i gathered about this: you can use it multiple times on an empty one, SOMETIMES dropping another resin, but completly removing the hole. I think this is more a feature than a bug, to exploit the hole if you want to chop the tree afterwards.

full hole never get removed in process, you may harvest resin from same tree for ages.
i placed little resin forest, one tree got 4 holes with about 5 minutes regeneration, missclick and -1 hole...
better not missclick then.
