In my single player I have had great difficulty getting hops, can someone tell me what to breed?

Breed nether wart with all normal plants and it did not work.
Then try again until you get it.

Is it bread with a vanilla plant or a cross bred one?
A Crossbred one.
And how do you plant "Bread"? I know you can plant Wheat and craft Bread of it, but Bread directly is not possible.

It's a bit random -- the other day, I got hops from cocao & venomilia.

I got mine from netherwart and melon, on a particularly shallow farmbed (one block deep, with stone brick beneath). As others have said, it will probably take multiple tries, however you get it.

I somehow got hops by crossbreeding melon and stickreeds. It doesn't happen often, but it does work

I got it from two stickreeds.

I also got problems with getting them.
already tried nether wart with every vanilla seed, nether wart with stickreeds, stickreeds and stickreeds, stickreeds with melon etc.
