Is obsidian better protection from nuclear explosions, than reinforced stone?
Is obsidian better reactor shielding?
-

Nope, Obsidian = 60 and RF-Stone = 150.
-
the cheapest highly explosion-resistant material is still water. use it!
it's also easier to reach your reactor when it's completly isolated with water than with RF stone -
My issue with rs is not price, mostly, but it's difficulty to dismantle.
how many layers of water do i need to shield casuc reactor?
-
From a previous thread I recall a recommendation of just two layers of water, the logic being: the innermost layer (next to the reactor) can get burned away by the reactor when it heats up, but the outer layer is immune to that. Explosions will not affect blocks through water (but will hurt mobs/players just fine, if memory serves).
Someone correct me if my recollection is wrong.

Watch out though, because IC2's custom explosions nerfed water's blast resistance to 30 from 500, which means that nukes and reactors can destroy multiple water blocks.

never heard or read about that. my last test was with 1.97 and behind two layers of water the explosion of a fully loaded reactor wouldn't even break one RF stone behind it. -

IC accesses the vanilla resistance values and nerfs water, lava and obsidian to 'realistic' values.

So, what are they now?
