Sure it's 1 less chamber, but it's also:
Copper: +1
Tin: -23
Iron: -39
Gold: +24

So that change to my design costs almost twice the amount of gold. Is +24 Gold and +1 Copper worth saving 39 Iron and 23 Tin? I'd rather spend a little more Iron and Tin and have 5 Chambers than spend 24 more Gold and have 4 Chambers. How are we classifying what an "Improvement" is? At what point is 1 less Chamber worth the extra Gold?

Edit: Also, was messing with that re-design and found you could make a pretty safe Mk2 design and save 2 Gold.

Edit2: Ok Zombie I updated my post. I did post a bug to the Planner thread because I'm pretty sure it's not calculating Copper costs correctly for the Overclocked Heat Vents. But I'm not sure why the resource amounts got thrown off when I was writing this the first time.

Edit3: I think to arrive at the true Copper cost, we should take the total number of Overclocked Heat Vents and multiply them by 16 Copper each. On the planner the current difference between an Overclocked Heat Vent and a Heat Vent is 2 gold. But to make an Overclocked Heat Vent it requires a Reactor Heat Vent plus 2 Gold. A Reactor Heat Vent requires a Heat Vent plus 16 Copper.

So my design uses 13 Overclocked Heat Vents, so the planner should add an additional 208 Copper.
The other design uses 17 Overclocked Heat Vents, so the planner should add an additional 272 Copper.
So I think it would cost an additional 64 Copper.

Is the Reactor Planner not working correctly? The resources tab shows 446 copper for mine and 445 copper for yours. I only posted the design I used because the copper was basicly the same and although it does take more gold, I often have more than I can use.

If it's not counting the copper used than the cost for any design with gold vents is actually alot higher.

I just realized that Quadrant II piles have a higher energy density than the stationary Quadrants. You can fit three into the same space at a single Quadrant IV (or any other six chamber unit for that matter).

I am starting to see a trend here. The smaller the pile, the higher the potential energy density, assuming one is using non-SUC MK1 cores. This can be packed extremely tightly, 810 EU/t for a 3x3x3 meter stack.

Less gold and copper, more iron. (Make sure to take into account that the planner is undercounting copper for overclocked vents.)

Hi all,

I have a bit different approach to reactor design that i have not seen here yet.

Presenting my Lazy Hybrid Reactors:

They breed the same amount as they burn without user interaction.
Using only single-cells and no reflectors, as i don't like to burn metals (hidden operating costs).
Also added generated Eu per ingot of uranium (8 isotopes cells) as a hybrid efficiency indicator. These reactors need only isotope cells. Statistically efficiency is even higher, as cells can leave depleted uranium for re-enrichment.

Reductions in cost and improvements to cooling are welcome.

So now the Quadrant Tribe has a rival. Anyways, I will see what I can do with them.

Very interesting designs, taral. Unorthodox, compact and effective.

As for RockRaiderZulu's "Quadrants", by most standards of reactor building (better effectivity, less construction price) they are a failure. But may be they were built with something other in mind - like "how many diamonds can we fit into reactor hull?". Then they are quite good.

It is decent. But Zombe's 280EU one has much better eff with just a litle less eu/t
