I would like to thank both of you for your imput on the subject and will fix these flaws to make the design more practical

Display MoreI got it to this point.

Didn't try to take out gold or anything, just was trying to make it not explode There might be a way to get a 3rd depleted cell but I just can't do it myself.
edit..
ok got it to 3.
Added in the new hybrid reactor section.
I think its possible to get alot more cells bred per cycle if you can get the temperature higher

Eu/tick: 160
Efficiency: 4
Cost: Iron 186, Copper 405, Tin 57, Gold 30
Running costs: 24 UU

I have a possible upgrade for this design:
Link: Mark I EA
Eu/tick: 160
Efficiency: 4
Cost: Iron : 207, Copper 351. Tin 63, Gold 24
Running costs: 9.6 UU
It costs a little more iron and tin to build, but less copper and gold. More importantly, the running cost is a lot lower, 9.6 instead of 24. Overall efficiency is 3.78

Yeah, it is possible to get a net of 16 new cells out of a four chambe, eight cell hybrid, but that is on the other side of the spectrum.

I think I improved this one somewhat. It costs five extra iron ingots but is otherwise cheaper
I've played IC2 for quite a while now but I've never actually built a nuclear reactor legit yet! They just seem so complicated and I don't understand any of it. People talking about breeders, meltdowns, stuff you put in the reactor to make it even work. I've read the info sticky but that barely made much sense at all to me.
Think I'm going to build one of the "safe" reactors in the first post and see how it works out, just to get my head around the "basics". Hopefully I'll get better at understanding how it all works out and can progress further from there.
Iam usually the only guy on the server knowing how the nuclear reactor works. Alot of ppl just skip them.
Are there any in-depth tutorials on how the reactors and breeders work, beside the one(s) in the sticky for 1.106-8?
not realy,
just remember:
Reactor has Heat Capacity
Uranium prodruces Heat, (all values for how much are in sticky, or in my thread)
Vents Remove Heat
Switches move Heat around in the reactor
Cooling Cells store heat
now you have to move the Heat away from the Uranium Cells or Hull to the cooling Vents.
with the reactor planner it is realy easy to play around and look what is happening.
An improvement on this breeder:
Breeder 1:
- Link: Cheap breeder
- Heating configuration (with timing): Autopilot
- Cells charged per uranium cell: 24
- Efficiency: 1
- Eu/tick: 5
- Cost: Iron 103, Copper 412, Tin 5, Gold 10
- Credits: Baturinsky
Link: Cheaper Breeder
Now charges 28 instead of 24
Cost (Change):
403 Copper (-9)
47 Tin (-4)
14 Bronze (+5)
96 Iron (-7)
2 Gold (-8)
37 Rubber (-18)
4 Coal (0)
18 Redstone (-6)
2 Glowstone (0)
2 Lapiz (0)

Greetings all! Here's the spec for my working reactor from my SSP world, which I like, and I hope someone else finds useful.
Mk I EA - 165 EU/tick
The reason I made it was because I wanted to have only one reactor but I wanted it to breed, to save my limited ore supply. I also wanted it to run full cycle instead of needing my attention regularly. For some reason I couldn't find any designs out there for reactors which run full cycle and breed only enough cells for the next run, so I had to figure it out myself. So that's my story, and if anyone is interested in the idea, I have some smaller versions as well (for when I didn't have so much gold and stuff).
Cheers!
My startup reactor.
Now available as a hybrid breeder.
It still produces 35 eu/t, but it also breeds 3 new uranium cells while running, which means 0.375 uranium per cycle.
This is the highest amount of cooling I can get out of a reactor while needing 5 slots in a plus configuration, which might not look very useful until you replace the quad-uranium cells with a quad-plutonium cell. It suggest that you can't burn plutonium at efficiency 14 (or 7, if you think that is correct) in a mk-1 reactor. Is this correct?
Saw the new Hybrid section and figured since I usually use hybrids id post one.

Uses heating cells so you don't have to heat it up.
6 Chambers, 24.5 Cells recharged per cycle, 160 EU/t, EF 4.
Cost: 937 Copper, 96 Tin, 26 Bronze, 302 Iron, 40 Gold, and 4 Diamonds.
It will use up 4 DCPs and 8 Uranium per cycle.
Edit: Changed it a little. 69 less Copper, 3 tin, and 6 Bronze. 14 more Iron, 2 Gold, and a Diamond.
40.5 Cells per cycle.
Is that a good design ? it is kind of a cheap one but maybe i can make one better ? That's a hybrid breeder

You could do it like so, but maybe it's better if you try to breed at least as many cells as you use in a cycle.
This breeder doesn't work with uranium cells, but I think this could be nice with thorium cells (1248 cells recharged? (thorium lives 5 times longer)).
It would be nice if the gregtech's nuclear reactor components could be used with the planner.
Quote-No mods other than IC2.
