    The reason i was in the planner though was to work on these thorium things. I thought why not try to combine all you need in 1 reactor.

    Thorium neutral and breeds 40 cells at 0 degrees, which centrifuges back into the exact amount of fuel needed to run the cycle. So i guess it a gregtech hybrid (plut+thorium) hybrid (power+breeder) design.

    Higher running cost on the first thanks to the quad cell. Running costs are a bigger consideration than build cost.

    As for the breeder, neat idea!

    Additional problem, this breeds *exactly* the right amount of uranium each thorium cycle.

    The problem here is, if the reactor runs for even one second with a re-enriched or no cell inside, then the fuel isn't there for the next thorium cycle.

    Though, if you prep two sets of fuel, that gives it a 50,000 second buffer. Even if you lose a whole minute each cycle it'll run for over a year.

    Tweaks on top of your tweaks.

    Breed at ~7k (i do 1k above the 3k breakpoints since temp fluctuates a bit, not sure if it matters).

    A little plating for no damage and sync cooling to baseline heat generation.

    I like it more as a self breeder but... hmm, that's a question of how you want to automate it, and excess output could be spent more efficiently. by mixing thorium positive and neutral designs.

    Let me tweak your tweak to my tweaks, and push the output all the way to 187. That'll power three additional reactors (specifically, I'm thinking two of the thorium negative and one of the thorium positive reactors from page 2, for the highest possible efficiency):

    Added a little option to the original design with your heat saving layout you can add an isotope and not have to tinker with much else.

    For the single breeder I got it to 10k as well without much tweaking, so if you need more cells per cycle should be an option with the heating cell path.

    Mmm... Filters will tell the difference between components with damage values and those without. Generally, when working with cooling cells... if one is needing to be swapped out, generally all of them do. So you have that many damaged cooling cells in the filter, it pulls them all out at once. The retriever simultaneously pulls that many fresh ones from your cooling towers and puts them where they go, because those are the only available slots left.

    Heck, that's about the only reason I use NR's in my DDoS reactors... it equalizes out the heat output of all the cells so they all heat evenly.

    Router's will apparently do it though, but I'm moving on to the hybreeder, Peppe's latest will get me enough output for 2058 EU/t.

    Each point of efficiency should be 1 million EU per uranium cell.

    To get this, I took EU per thorium cycle/(plutonium * 12.5).

    The 12.5 comes from the number of plutonium cell replacements per thorium cycle (2.5) times 5 (the amount of uranium used up centrifuging re-enriched uranium).

    The 'should be' part is because this isn't accurate with the thorium negative reactor, which needs extra thorium from somewhere (it works combined with a thorium positive reactor, but not running it on its own). The correct efficiency there when I put these up officially (today, hopefully) is 14 + 1 extra plutonium (which is calculated off the uranium needed to make all the thorium, since the plutonium is excess).

    Wouldn't it be simpler to calculate it based on EU yield per cell alone?

    i.e. that 512 EU/t, 512 million EU reactor we had with the cooling cell, it had six quad thorium cells, meaning 24 thorium cells at 1 million EU per thorium per efficiency, and 3 plutonium cells at 4 million EU per efficiency. Sums up to 36 million EU per efficiency.

    512 / 36 = 14.222

    I'm concerned about overselling the imbalanced reactors. Any other method shows them having great efficiency, which, if you combine them with other reactors they really do, but on their own they have lower efficiency because of wasted isotopes.

    I really don't have a clue what I'm doing here as I've never built a nuclear reactor of any type before, but I've been reading through this thread and playing with the IC2 Reactor Planner and toying with some of the designs you guys have come up with. I really don't understand how to swap components into and out of a reactor while it is running (I would love to see a video) but here is a design I stumbled across that might interest you.

    Of note with this design, bumping up the starting heat can increase the number of Depleted Cells charged should that be desirable.

    The thread here is centered around vanilla IC2 reactors only. The thorium cells come from a infamous or awesome addon named GregTech.
