I increased the cluster of AE Quartz by 2, for new spawns (2 extra will spawn). I'm also going to look (again) at re-popping ores. The last time I tried this, I had numerous issues that I didn't have time to resolve. I will pick a time that the server is not busy, and see if I can get it done.
Still prefer barrels, they can be configed to not hold as much as normal

That's correct, but it doesn't translate into feeling it while actually doing it.
It does, you don't waste the time but use durability or waste time -
while IC2's plates don't really scale anywhere to a point that makes it feel less tedious and feel like you achieved something (rather, the forge hammer is seen as an annoyance before you get the metal former, then a challenge for you to get the metal former).
The forge hammer is a limited use instant plate maker, the metal former takes time but will last forever. -
