Using Buildcraft and equivalent Exchange -- you can do the bucket autofill thing. Use an 'Evertide Amulet' which, when combined with an empty bucket, produces a water bucket (and does not use up the evertide amulet --- basically, unlimited water).
I have been thinking about doing a buildcraft system with the auto crafting table to do this -- but without being able to reliably get the empty bucket out of the nuclear reactor, I was going to use compressors to make ice and feed them in.

you didn't specify that in your original post, and you never can be TOO sure.
Are you installing ANY other mods? TMI? Optifine? (I've heard Optifine can cause problems with MCForge, never tried it myself).
Can you check your ModLoader.txt (found in the root of your .minecraft folder) and copy/paste it here (Usually this only records errors on loading, I've never seen a game crash during terrain generation).
Did you install IC2 by putting the files in your jar (Like you did with modloader) or did you put the IC2 zip file in your Mods folder?
Did you install audiomod? I know its listed as optional, but just curious.

What mine craft version are you using? 1.7.3? Or 1.8?
1.8 isn't supported by MCForge or IC2 yet.
This might be a little bit of a wacky suggestion -- but how about the opposite? A DISCharging bench.
Put 10 lapotron crystals into it at once, and it emits current at 512eu/s (Obviously thats the T3 version, T1 and T2 versions will accept the respective energy storage devices) and it keeps emitting current until all batteries/crystals are drained.
It will rapidly fill an MFSU, or supply current directly. So I can go out into the field with 5 lapotron crystals, a DISCharging bench, and a Terraformer. Put down the Terraformer, hook it up to the DISCharging bench, and drop my 5 (or 10, or 12) Lapo crystals in and just walk away.
This will make it much faster to transport power from one place to another.

I made an underground geothermal station using Equivalent Exchange, Buildcraft, and of course, IC. Simply put some redstone and Tin into a chest, and its automatically converted using BC pipes and auto-crafting tables into Lava Fuel cells. Those are then (EVENLY!) distributed to my geothermal generators. I'm pretty proud of this setup (and its easily expanded for more geothermals).

FYI -- Someone was talking about the DM furnace, and it duplicating 33% of items -- thats an intended effect in EE.
If I *REALLY* wanted to take it to the next level, I could put some glowstone aggregators down there, and use EE recipes to convert Glowstone -> Glowstone Dust -> Redstone, and then pipe that into the system :).
Any add-on writers wanna take a crack at it?

the electric jetpack has a hieght limit of aroun 80, so make sure you aren't too high. I haven't had any problem with them.
Probably this, in your other post you mentioned a sky fortress. Build a fuel powered jetpack if you wanna go higher.
I didn't know a redstone'd MFE/MFSU will output power if its full, even if redstone current is supplied :). Good to know!

This does work, and its the way I did it in my lets play early on (like episode 3 or 4).

Is that the blue things? Ok, I probably didn't mention that, because I didn't know they distribute heat to the hull as well as the items around them :). Awesome! Good to know!
And tell me if I've made any mistakes. I realize it doesn't cover EVERYTHING there is about them, but I'm hoping that I wasn't WRONG about anything that I did cover
