Need help with nuclear setup

  • I looked through the posts here so far and couldnt find what I was looking for, though I probably overlooked it.


    I would be greatful if somebody could tell me the best design for a 6chamber reactor that can run through a full cycle of uranium and not explode, the cooling time and resources are not really a problem. (already made a room out of reinforced stone, surrounded reactor with water aswell. Thanks :)

  • You are looking for a Mark I reactor.


    Just throw a uranium cell in there, and you're ready to go. If it's surrounded by water as you say, plop 3 of those bad boys in there, but make sure they arn't next to each other. That'll produce 3 million EU total at 15 EU per tick.


    Of course, that isn't too efficient, so we have to ask for some criteria:


    1) How important is efficiency? Do you mind getting 1 million EU per uranium cell, or do you want 2.33 million EU per uranium cell?
    2) How important is EU/t? Do you want to get 15 EU per tick, or do you want to get 55 EU per tick? Do you want to run 4 miners simultaneously, or do you just want to use the energy for whatever you need, whenever. Mass fabrication needs? More over less?


    The hardest part about managing a reactor is actually using the energy it produces.

    A pretty unsafe reactor as well, but still in the Mark II category (lasts 645 seconds longer than one cycle). The efficiency is starting to get into the better range, but for the safety of the surrounding area, it might be a good idea to run a redstone clock to make this into a 50/50 runtime reactor. Doing so would make this a Mark II-EB (actual E approaches infinity).

    Not exactly a great reactor design for high efficiency in the Mark II category, nor very safe in what I think is a generally safe Mark II reactor. I like having at least 10 cycles without incident generally.


  • Im hooking up the nuke to my mass fab directly, howmuch eu per uranium cell is of no importance to me, safety would be nice though lol since its only encased in one row of refined stone (all 6 sides) but it is liteally right next to the mass fab, my auto geothermal generation station is right under it and my farm next to it. So Explosions are NOT welcome lol

    Just add a simple redstone circuit to make this run about 50/50 and it'll be all good. Of course, if you don't, it'll take around 7500 ticks to cool off (from max heat that doesn't melt components).

    Making an array of 4 is cheaper than one 6-chamber with all those HD's (and it will output 80eu/t instead of 60). Downside - you will be only getting 16M per cycle and 8 uranium cells, while MK-II will give you 12K from 4 uranium cells.

    And with the reactor designs, How long would I have to wait between each euranium (excuse spelling) "round" lol

  • In all of the designs I've created, you can tell how man cycles it can go by the number in the classification. So, with the Mark II-9.7C, you can go for 9.7 cycles without the reactor exploding. To be safe, just run 9 cycles and then wait for the reactor to cool off. There is no wait time between these 9 cycles, just exchange the uranium. As for wait time with the last cycle, it's a tad bit of math to figure. Just do 10000*(1+# of internal components)/(total cooling). So for that 9.7C reactor...


    10000*(1+50)/(35+33)=7500 ticks

  • I think I consider that to be a radical enough change to pretty much be a design of itself and not just a simple modification of my reactor design. In either case, that works very nicely and would come out to be a Mark II-EC (E being 17 in this case, I think).

    might be for you it will burn 4 of the coolant cells away each cycle in return for little required cooldown time after each (as long as you replace them)
    good if you have spare tin and an extractor but want less hassle

    After 2000 ticks those 4 coolants get destroyed, and there are 2 cells on the side that have 4000 heat in them. You'll have to wait, or let them cool down. So you generate energy for 2000 ticks, and cool down for at least 4000 ticks. (50*2000 / 6000) = 16 EU/t, of course you could always just remove those overburdened coolant cells and make new ones.


    The OP seemed to want to just leave it there and run, how ever, and your design is a Mark IV (About 20% of a full cycle,) meaning it will need to be maintained at least once, because there are broken components. As soon as those 4 cells are destroyed, massive heat is fed through the system.
