Hey guys, my scanner won't work even when I put it RIGHT NEXT to a pattern storage device and charge it to full power with my MFSU. It just says "idle" and won't let me even put any items at all into it. I don't know what the problem is, but I can't begin replicating my iridium at all so this kind of sucks.
Minecraft version 1.11.2 and industrial craft 2.7.9 by the way!
Oh and I've tried just about every item from cobblestone to diamond so its something else that's the problem. I just don't get it....
2.7.9? That's out of date for Minecraft 1.11.2. The latest I see is 2.7.76, and according to this other thread, the issue you describe has been fixed since 2.7.59.
I'm on a private server with my friend. If I update will I lose all my machines? Will the server still work? Does he have to update too?
The server and all clients need to be updated. And no, you don't lose your progress.
What are the steps to update?
You delete the old IC2 jar and put the new one into the mods folder.

I think all people need to update. Not sure though. It's safe to try though.
The scanner relies on the server calculating the UU graph to get scan values, so IC2 will need to be updated both sides.
Its just the .jar files that need to be replaced in the mods folder right? Nothing else?
Yes, I don't think the minimum Forge version requirement increased between those builds. Even if it did, it should tell you as the game starts.
