</offtopic>What traits do hops have? From what I've seen, those appear to have an effect on crossbreeding.

for me best thing to cross is nether wart. i created one field 9x9 and plants it full with nether wart in chess board pattern. after fully grown i put cross crops between them. you should get at least one or two hops and cocoa beans.

the higher the level the easier it is to cross breed new plants so start with a cross breed square of 1 rose, 1 reed, 1 melon, and 1 dandelion they are are all level 2 and don't need to be crossbreed first. same thing with nether wart you don't need seed bags and its a relatively higher level plant
