The new 5x5 IC² Reactor

I have built a fairly effective microcycle reactor, 1640 HU/T connected via buffer drums to a 800HU (600eu/t) Steam turbine set
its controlled with project red by monitoring the levels in the cold buffertank along with a forced minimum duty cycle (15s on 60s off). a PR comparator reads the cold fluid drum (binary empty or not) that feed into a control system with a lever for personal control.

the turbine set is 8 heat exchangers feeding 4 steam generators, (set to 1mb 221bar) the superheated steam from these feed 2 chained pairs of turbines and one condenser (with 4 heat vents)

*clap* Very nice, the redstone is rather complicated, but logical in it's purpose. Can we get a world download so I can have a closer look? :)

145 Mods isn't too many. 9 types of copper and 8 types of tin aren't too many. 3 types of coffee though?

I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realise that what you read was not what I meant.

    I see this too much.

  • well my old one blew up from lack of coolant (derped the comparator setup) i have rebuilt it in a flatgrass world

also rebuilt the system using stirlings this time since the steam system isnt worth the constant refined iron cost for a meager HU>EU, and if theres nowhere to put the EU, the stirlings will stop using coolant and thus shut off the reactor, not wasting full HU like the steam system does if the MFSU is full

edit: it may(probably will) still blow up. it aint perfected but its close enough to get the idea

you will NEED: forgemultipart, extrautilites 1.1.0e, project red 4.4.5.44, Ic2 580, and any prereqs for those. other versions may work. but these are what its built with

there will be the "you dont have mods" error on loading the save for other mods i have installed so long as you have the ones i listed you should be ok to ignore it

    Cool, thanks :)

  • I like this , you can make really high-end contraptions and worth-while power generation.

After doing lots of testing I came up with this : http://imgur.com/OYwZTS2

This allows you to produce just a massive amount of steam ( that is stored in the ME system)
at just the cost of uranium and I can't wait to see with what for amazing designs the community comes up with.

  • I messed around with the planer today and i managed to create a 800 hU/t 'stable' design. This would result in 400mb/t superheated steam if i am not mistaken.

Here it is. If you have any suggestions how to improve it, let me know ;)

  • Just a quick question because it is a component of my test 5x5 reactor: My steam generator looses temperature much too fast even when using 1PSI and 1mB to generate steam. I have the setup from physics in post #20. The 2 heat exchangers has all 10 heat conductors. What am I doing wrong?

  • gnomegemini: I'm hearing that it's now not cost effective to do that. Keeping the buffer full of water is better than using 1mb.

1mb was great before the bugfix, but now you don't always even get it back.

  • nice setup  but sure the golden golden Pipe not break you systen.. ? Gold Pipe 40mb/t 2 SteamGenerator create 2*100mB Steam/t

  • nice setup  but sure the golden golden Pipe not break you systen.. ? Gold Pipe 40mb/t 2 SteamGenerator create 2*100mB Steam/t

The gold pipe is used to transfer Distilled Water collected from Kinetic Steam Generator and Condenser.
Steam is transfered from Steam Generator -> Kinetic Steam Generator 1 -> Kinetic Steam Generator 2 -> Condenser, not through the pipe.

  • Couldn't you reduce the amount of steam generators (and turbines) by 2 by pumping 400 hU/t in each instead of 200?

    End up like this:http://imgur.com/jvacCVIhttp://imgur.com/WXfONYW
Did save a lot of resource! (including Reactor Fluid Port, especially when short of lead)

But the Steam Generator is 6-sides-blocked, had to remove the Fluid Distributor to open its GUI.

It'd be great if Heat Conductor can be placed as a "wire" to transmit heat :D

    I second this!

Maybe different tiers of heat conductor based on what it is made of. To hot and it will melt.
