Suggestion: Paint Cells/Backpack & Clay

  • Hi everyone,

New here so first of all I want to congratulate Alblaka and all the development team for this wonderfull mod. Thanks to it I got hooked again to minecraft and even my brother joint me to play in SMP.

Looking up in the wiki I found the forum and I thought of some ideas:

    - Clay: As I've seen that most of the blocks can be crafted by mechanical methods such as sand with the macerator or the UU matter recipes. I saw a recipe for clay in the wiki but I couldn't make it work. I've searched a lot around my map but I haven't found and in another world I found just a few for some walls. I assume is a development decision (as I looked about in the forum and couldn't find anything related to bugs). Could it be implemented again? I think construction Foam is a nice feature that should be access with relative easiness. I thought also that maybe it could be crafted using another machine like some sort of a mixer (wich could work with powders and water and be also used for getting bronze, glowstone, depleted isotope cells,...).

    - Paint Cell/Backpack: The other day I tried to paint all the floor of my base white and I almost got crazy. I worked with 3 painters and with even that was quite annoying. Would it be feasible to have some kind of backpack or paint bucket/cell from wich the painter could drain its durability?

Thank you for your time and your patience :D ,

    1. Afaik clay spawns in abdundant amounts on maps. I can consider adding a UUM recipe for it, though.

    2. The problem is, color must be stored via ID since we can only store a single data value, f.e. damage, in the metaslot.
Thus we would need to implement 17 backpacks/buckets for that, which IS kinda a drag.
I could offer a hook to automatically "refill" a colored painter if you got the according dye in your inventory (and it runs dry), though.

I missed the old clay recipe from IC1... using a diminished version of it now with Custom Recipes that includes Water Cells interchangeably with Water buckets...

And a paint bucket would be neat to have. It could go well with massive painting projects on huge, metropolitan like buildings on SMP maps.

(Speaking of which, would a vertical 'snow' like block be possible to implement for virtually any paint-able surface? I know that would diminish the use of CF, but the drawback of these blocks could be to be erodible by water and rain...)

Would anyone like to try a Slowpoke Tail?! Only 1 Million Yen!

this isn't about arrogance or ego, I have a block that I put a lot of freaking work into

Every Mod Author, in existence. And yet, you STILL say otherwise.

+1 on clay recipe. I certainly would love to use it again, but unlike you I cant use custom recipes, since it doesn't work multiplayer.

As for those paint blocks, I have a mod (I think it was evil minecraft, not sure) that removed mossy cobblestone, and replaced it with moss, which was placed on top of cobblestone as a seperate block, and it rendered on those blocks.

That would be great. I though that maybe could be usefull to implement a recipe to "clean" the painter (such as the painter and a bucket of water) in order to avoid problems if you want to change the color. Or will it be harsh due to the 17 ID painters?

Interesting... too bad evil minecraft doesn't believe in compatiblity...

While I know it's another dependancy, you could use CubeX2's Custom stuff to make a custom recipe for SMP: http://www.minecraftforum.net/…uff-multi-page-chest-smp/

  • eh, what metod to store data used for fuel cans? they able to store fuel up to 45k, same can be used for dyes, function to get sprite from damage value will allow to change color of can to match contains, namechange looks like not allowed by current version of forge.

  • I guess you could create a "magic paint bucket" that automatically topped off any painter in use regardless of color X times. I don't think players getting "free dye" will have much negative impact on the game. Perhaps crafted from 3 uu-matter in a V shape. That uu-matter is amazingly versatile stuff after all.

How about a backpack that produces infinite dye from stored UUM? :3

edit: waitwaiwait! Even better: Painting boots! They eat up UUM/energy, "power" painters (just like batpack > tools) and additionally PAINT FLOOR BELOW YOU if you're holding a painter equipped.
This could be the start of a new generation of Paint Wars :3
