if what i understood is correct it should make things easier for the user and more dificult for the modders.
for server users its handy, only having to instal forge and presto. its done.

I just read that topic. . . In retrospect, updating to 1.2.5 before checking if the mods had updated was a bad idea 
it looks like Minecraft Forge 3.0.0.69 (& 3.0.0.70 in quick succession) was released today for 1.2.5 =)

Man you itchy pants are annoying, those are not official releases for 1.2.5, more like beta version so stop posting those damn.
Also it should only make things difficult for modders once when they do the conversion from 1.2.3/1.2.4 to 1.2.5, after that it should be like nothing happened.

If LexManos' post on the Forge forums is anything to go by, the conversion from MLMP to (the aptly named) FML shouldn't be too hard:

So, for the SMP community, what does this mean? As I don't play online, it wouldn't really have any bearing on myself (as of yet - I do plan on playing SMP at some point), but does this mean waiting until MC 1.3 is up for mods to hit the multiplayer community again?

I agree with him. Besides give it a chance, after a week or four you will barely remember what MLMP was.

You mean lex decision? Yeah the one of not making the wrapper. (But then again i have no idea what a wrapper is :P, i support him solely on the choice of moving away from MLMP entirely)

Depends on how heavily based the mod was on the MLMP system. In some cases yes... others, no...
This seems more like an autonomy move on Lex's part to ensure faster response time to port and update mods as versions change... Can't say I blame them, but it's a hell of an aggressive way to go about it...

Even after reviewing all this information, I'm still unsure where my leanings are on this matter. On the one hand, with the built-in mod support, it should get mods up to date faster...but to do so would require some mods to literally start from square one again, it's sounding like, or at the very least, a considerable amount of rewriting.
Or maybe this is just the ramblings of a semi-sleep-deprived computer jockey who's reading into things too much.
