Im running gregtech 2.90h, and none of the designs that are here, besides the 1 chambers work. I know youre trying to make stuff hard, but now you have made is so that thorium is a complete waste of time, and plutonium cant be used at all. A simple uranium reactor does better than all of these designs, no matter how fancy they are(not mentioning they dont work). I know you're not gonna change anything, i just wanted to let you know. Oh and BTW remove this topic, it can cause a lot of problems for people that come here for looking for WORKING designs.
[Reactor Designs] The GregTech-Thread for Reactor Designs! (Please dont spam me like Rick, with tons of noobish Plans, PLEASE!!!)

2.90h was not intended as a long-term use build, and that's the underlying issue. It wasn't used long, so designs on this thread aren't likely to work because no one bothered to design for it in the first place. Thorium has been significantly buffed since that release.
That said, 2.9h also has plutonium pretty good, so you may want to reconsider that part.

Does anyone have good thorium breeder designs for GregTech 3.08b+? The change to thorium behavior seems to have greatly reduced its ability to breed, alas, so the lovely 6-chamber single thorium breeder linked near the start of this thread is, alas, no longer so lovely in practice....
Edit: I'm talkabout Thutmose's "Thorium based safe breeder," http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…1bxaa9hjxgzi03cjhjpokja84
It is indeed safe, and does breed, but I'm seeing a yield of more like 50 re-enriched uranium cells per cycle, not the 400 he describes getting out of it.

Just throwing this out there; as far as I can tell, IC2/GregTech nuclear power is severely underpowered compared to conventional energy sources, by real world standards [citing Lawrence Berkeley Lab here]:
QuoteThe fission of 1 g of uranium or plutonium ... liberates about 1 MW. This is the energy equivalent of 3 tons of coal or about 600 gallons of fuel oil
A bucket of Fuel in a Diesel Generator produces 384k EU, so by this standard one uranium cell in an efficient reactor should produce a nominal 230 million EU, so call it 25 million EU per cell for efficiency 1. Sound right?
-
Yeah I agree they aren't powerful enough, but IRL Nuclear Powerplants are way more expensive, Uranium way rarer and harder to process ... I think it's almost fine for now, we just need a better than Overclocked + Component Vent from GT ... or some awesome MSR he is likely to implement ... let's say this summer

Pretty much the same as Simple Design 2, but needs Gold Vents and only 2 Chambers:
Cheaper Version of Simple Design 2 by Talonius
Produces: 56.000.000 EU at 56 EU/t with Eff 7
Runs forever * /This is the cheaper version? Dear Ghu. Do people really think of "cheaper" as applicable to designs using iridium neutron reflectors? I think of them as beginning at "expensive" and progressing rapidly to "obscene...."
The six iridium neutron reflectors used in this design take 48 beryllium cells to produce, which by my reckoning means processing either 768 ender pearls or, by the mineral route, a bare minimum of 310 emerald *ore*, processed in an Industrial Grinder to get the 464 emerald dust needed.
How does a GT-oriented Minecraft world expect people to acquire these sorts of raw-material supplies?
-
A nice, simple reactor you can easily produce fairly early on in the game:
http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…6omkbiavg0nhdbp21c531whz4
And, as an added bonus, it can easily be swapped out to a thorium-only design:
http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…q49xf3ych1g1b6cy2x96eomww
Note that I have tested this design in the GT computer cube, and can confirm that it is completely safe. I've also been using the first design in Singleplayer for several hours now, with no problems at all. (I actually have it situated right next to my MFSU)

Another interesting design I got from one of the other ones that were posted here, a nice way to get rid of the ridiculous amount of thorium I'm sure you have:
http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…f91fab4w01bgp0h7pam2cy4n4And if you don't care about the little bit of lesser efficiency, you can add this for higher output:
http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…2zhrivgr67rrobkj94v3q6q68Also note how nice and neatly it can be automated!
Though, these do obviously rely on lead being plentiful and not very useful.
EDIT: Higher efficiency!!1
]http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…erwz4jg17in4g7jxi0gqm0pogJust tested that in-game, didn't work... -
8xQuad Thorium cells fully and easy automated nuclear reactor - with gregtech a little... and efficiency 5.50/5.50
3xQuad Uranium cell fully and easy automated nuclear reactor
Are was something like this there?
And finally meet El Diablo 19xQuad plutonium cell at 4360 EU/t -
Can anybody help me to turn on it?
-
So, i was bored waiting for enough resources to turn up to do fusion, then figured i'd sidetrack to some nuclear power.
As a result, i've been told to go post my designs...Breeder - 3 chamber, sits happily at 28k, charges a decent amount at that heat. Its trivial to expand to 6 chambers if you felt like it to push the heat to whatever you wanted. Runs on quad thorium as a breeder

http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.blueyo...2as9nwgnk3gvecynzwl8w7twujaac0pwi7tmnh6yh9p1cReactor - 4 chamber, eff 5, 2 iri reflectors. 200 eu out, mk 1 ea - something to do with those iri plates you'll need for the fusion coils. Runs on quad uranium
http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.blueyo...p7q8zcl4dfgy0h9f8k8n1gaju6kgabsu9478a7vf68buoReactor - 4 chamber, eff 7, 4 iri reflector, 140 eu out, mk1 ea - if you wanted more efficiency for some reason.

Is the IC2 reactor planner V3 currently borked or am I making a mistake? The following plutonium reactor is not stable, but according to the planner, it should be.
http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…mfa7ztc582kg6juwtfjgqeozk
Its goofy looking but basically I need decent output without burning copper. I tested it in creative and within 10 mins there were pieces of the reactor in the stratosphere...

Yes, Greg has tweaked plutonium as well as thorium and the reactor planner was never updated to respect the changes, I would recommend testing the designs in the Computer cube as it tends to be much more accurate.

Exactly, this worked just fine in Unhinged http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.b…vva6azf9gcbd07o2eca9pxjwg
The Computer Cube is extremely slothful. Is there any other way to make simulations, calculations? I'd do it with pen and paper, but I don't really understand how the components work exactly or how dynamic is the Nuclear Reactor's heat system. Any suggestions? -
the best reactor design I found: requires 4 plutonium single fuel rods and 5 quad thorium cells. Save, no need for making reflectors, but 592 eu/t.
-
Is this a good design? I haven't tested it myself...
-
Is it possible now to make a depleted isotope cell with Gregtech installed?
-
A time-saving, but resource-wasting plan. (pre-IC2E)
