An upgrade for machines which would reduce the volume of the machine's sounds by 50% (maybe more, maybe less). It could be crafted from wool and maybe some plates. I find that with a bunch of machines running in the workshop the racket is very loud. Thoughts?
[Suggestion] Muffler upgrade

I generally like hearing the sounds of IC2. But there are two exceptions:
1.) A bank of geothermals flickering on/off/on/off
2.) The mass fab OH GOD the mass fab make it stopSo I'm all for this, just to make the massfab shut up. If goethermals could accept the upgrade as well, that would be great.
-
While that would be good, there is one thing you can do as a workaround :
go to IC² jar and delete those sound files you wish to never hear again. -
most useless suggestion ever, epecially for players who dont hear at all (including someone who constantly on winamp)

The suggestion is not useless at all. If I decide to implement sounds for my machines they'll definitely come with a muffler upgrade.

Extra Utilities adds a sound muffler block that reduces all sound in a 8 block radius by 90%.

The Railcraft rock crusher is the worst...
The mass fab used to annoy me as well, it's kind of like white noise for me now.

No way, at least unlike the mass fab or GEO THERMAL GENERATORS it isn't constant noise. -
in minecraft only creeper sound matters.

Wrong. Tons of sounds are useful, from the "there is a huge cave arround"-sound to the water/mob sounds, that leads you to ravines, caves, mineshaft or dungeon. And sound is cool

Unless you have a giant sheep farm. -
The Cave Sounds are irrelevant. My vanilla X-Ray (still working in all 1.7 Versions!) is more than enough for that.

But is an exploit, aka something you shouldn't, as the Big Nerfer, tolerate or use.

glowstone + piston?
That one is fixed. I was talking about Fence + Redstone.

That one is new for me.
Back to OP, what about adding wool as a sound muffler?
The more wool you put on its upgrade slots, the less sound it makes, up to 20 wool (no sound).
It shouldn't be hard to code. -

Is that the one Docm uses where you right click on the redstone block on the fence to get your head in?

Yes, first place two fences, second go close to the fence until you collide with it, third place two Blocks of Redstone, fourth do not cause any Block Updates (yes that is important) and just go into the Redstone Blocks to look around.

It shouldn't be hard to code.It would be easier just to shut the sound off at the first upgrade IMO ...

But... sometimes i feel like listening to IC² sounds, sometimes not. Sometimes there are too many (of the same machine) that it annoys me and turning its sound down a bit would be enough.
