I have to agree, the middle tier is not really that big of a part of the community (or I somehow never got in touch with those and only got to see both ends).

There he is wrong though, since the middle tier is only HIS sense of balance. The entire thing is invalid because of the simple fact that people have different opinions.
Really, I think the categories would be split into how much time you are willing to play, with the "creative" being little, "balance" being some and "tedium" being lots.
Yeah, he also leaves out several other groups involved, and his bias towards the modpacks is pretty obvious...
A more accurate representation would probably be:
Purist: People who believe certain mods shouldn't have their balance tampered with
Remixers: People willing to use any and every mod available to them just for fun, regardless for what the mod actually does (if anything)
Lazies: People who prefer 'easy route' mods that give them resources just for dropping a block
Griefers: People who like to mess with other people's creations just to get a reaction out of people
Balancers: People who desire mod integration and complimentary mod interaction in their Minecraft play
Grinders: People who prefer long ended, challenging games filled with complexity and strategic avenuesNot everyone is just 'one' aspect of these designations. For example, people who often play with a 'grind' style, will also voice their opinion like a Balancer in order to ensure the challenge in their game play. Likewise, a Remixer may be guilty of also being a bit of a 'Lazy', as having a long winded, tiered mod be difficult to chew thru as they attempt to simply enjoy what the mod has to over just so they can move onto the next thing available to them...

Not sure until I've played. If you just meet them once or twice then it's good, but if you keep meeting all of them throughout the game it could get confusing, which is bad. -
