[Reactor Designs] The GregTech-Thread for Reactor Designs! (Please dont spam me like Rick, with tons of noobish Plans, PLEASE!!!)

  • Any tips and guidance would be most welcome before I start shoe horning the setup into the ship.

Just a quick suggestion, running your main reactor without the reactor plating seems to give the same results, so it could save you a bit of time & resources if you don't include those. I wouldn't use reactor plating unless you planned on running the reactor hot.

That is true, its just my habit of chucking cheap reactor plating in the leftover slots to prevent mishaps, also makes it easier on single item refills in automation.

  • I've also found it useful as a safety: buildcraft gate set to emit power when full, and use that power (along with an AND gate) yo turn the thing on, any component meltdown shuts the thing off.

  • Does the last slot contain 1 or 64 heating cells? Because in the reactor planner it says Heating cell (x64), but the material cost is way different then having 64 heating cells. So which one is it?

  • I actually built this reactor design in my world, first time ever doing a breeder - it's AMAZING. Uranium is OVERFLOWING at the cost of a single thorium cell and few stacks of copper blocks. It's awesome.

Properly automated it to pull out the re-enriched cells and to put new near-depleted and it's awesome.

Ty for introducing me to breeders, dear thread xD

  • Because I can...

1668 Cells / Cycle, quadthorium breeder. Only eff 4/7, but if you need maximal charging speed, you won't easily get better than this.

    Heating configuration:

Note that the running configuration has 60 heating cells, the heating 61, and the heating configuration can be left AFK if you want to leave it warm.

  • Hello guys,
for those who are playing with a ModPack that has Factorization in, here is the most awesome way to fully automate your reactor:

I am using routers! Since you can set routers to pull in/out items from specific inventory slots, it is VERY easy to automate your reactor safely. Together with Applied Energistics (thats the weird cabeling above the routers) you can even fully automate it. If you dont have AE, routers will still make your life a lot easier.

I hope I was able to help a few of you, because i don't think anyone else came up with such a solution yet.

Thank you guys and keep up the good work!

  • Gregtech regulators can place anything into up to 9 slots in a single block, if I understand it correctly. It will not take stuff out, however, but the only think you'd really want to take out of a reactor anyway is depleted or re-enriched cells, which can be filtered out easily.

However, routers are generally cheaper, easier to use, and don't require EU.

  • Routers require factorization power now.

No, they don't. The only change was that they require strong redstone signal (power) to turn them off, before week signal was enough to disable them (without any visual indication).

Highest efficiency i have gotten :P
2x Quad Thorium reactor (Mark I EA*)

  • The idea I use is using quad thorium as low-heat producing thing with 4 cells + plutonium. generally, if you use 1 quad thorium and 1 plutonim, the latter will think, that it should pulse per each lame thorium. = profit
quad thorium + 4 plutonium around = profit + less heat + max eff compared to quad plutonium + quad thorium
difference is quite obviuous in planner, try it out.

The 4 Plutonium is more efficient then the Quad due to Nuetron Reflection, as each cell works a bit like one, more of the Thorium's Neutrons are being Reflected and Reacted with the Plutonium on the outside, compared to the Quad cell on one side, letting most of the Thorium's Neutrons escape.

  • So I've played with reactors a lot using uranium, thorium, and plutonium. I like to be efficient, so I prefer to balance efficiency and total output. Efficiency is how much power you get per cell. I shoot for between 4 and 5, max possible efficiency is 7, anything below 3.5 is bad, unless you just have a ton of resources. So here are the reactors that I run, and came up with myself and with the collaboration of Detoxii. All of them are full cycle, and fairly expensive. Only my Uranium only design uses Iridium Neutron Reflectors.

    Uranium Only (230 EU/t, Total 46million eu, Eff 4.6)http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.blueyonder.…jti3diliw51p0jk

    Thorium Only (192 EU/t, Total 192million EU, Eff 4.8 )http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.blueyonder.…yxzaz4mx5hgdips

After experimenting with plutonium, I've come to the conclusion that a plutonium only reactor isn't feasible if you desire efficiency instead of burst energy, so I've combines thorium and plutonium. You'll need to replace the cells, but a RedPower 2 filter or BuildCraft 3 Autarchic Gate makes that simple.

    Thorium/Plutonium Hybrid (353 EU/t, Total 353million, Eff 4.93)http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.blueyonder.…l0uge9eqebhmbcw

Now you can put another single plutonium cell on the above design for increased output and efficiency, but the fourth plutonium only gives 50 eu/t whereas the 3 in this design give 90, 90 and 130. So that one plutonium cell that gives 50 isn't very efficient.

Breeder that uses Thorium (20 Cells recharged at a time, total of 200 recharged, 20 every 5000 seconds)http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.blueyonder.…5a3wg7fys2q4dmo

I always welcome improvement to my designs, I'm not claiming that they're the best. I hope you guys find these useful!
